Mar 19, 2016 It's OK to discuss other engines in a mature manner, so long as tech support for said engines goes to the relevant site- for example any questions about cryengine should probably respectfully be asked on the cryengine forums - they will appreciate it and so will users here.
I downloaded the CryENGINE 3 SDK a few weeks back and have been playing around with it a little. It is fairly straight forward and there are tons of tutorials out there already.
I wanted to see if anyone else here on TH has been playing with it, and what are your experiences.
(Also, Please feel free to show some of your work)
I have been trying to teach myself the SDK along with MAYA for the modeling.
Does anyone know where a non-designer can get some tutorials for character design, character animation, etc.
I would really like to become proficient in game design (entirely for personal fulfillment)
For me this is becoming a close to impossible task. (I am a SAP consultant by trade, with a degree in System Security, so my mind is not geared towards this form of creativity and I lack any kind of professional experience/teaching)
Any help or Submissions of your personal work would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

Does it train you to stay calm and focused under enemy fire? I mean really, how can a game prepare you for a 5-mile insertion with 100 lbs on your back and the slightest pain?
It's not to physically train you. It's to simulate your expected mission in a sandboxed environment, without the immense risk of an IRL convoy with blanks, full gear.
Mission logistics are multiple times more complex than Call of duty. Being physically located in an area you have never been, looking for something or somewhere, with only a GPS to guide you, and no little mission arrow to point you is an extremely different scenario than most video games paint it to be.
IRL Simulations (Even CONUS at places like NTC) commonly have major injuries and even deaths, in preparation for OCONUS missions.
I've used similar convoy simulators, and they are very fun, while eye opening at the same time as to the real situations you may occur.
